2013 Yamaha Raptor 90 Review

Who's your daddy? A legend...

Directly decended from the award-winning Raptor 700R, the Raptor 90's rugged 4-stroke engine gives the full auto CVT transmission some major get up and go go go.

For kids 12 years and older, the Raptor 90 is an excellent machine to start learning on.

Powered by a reliable 88cc air-cooled four-stroke engine coupled to a fully automatic CVT transmission, the Raptor 90 is not only easy to use, but can accommodate various levels of riding ability. And there's an adjustable rev limiter to help you manage their learning curve.

Other features to help ensure they won't get bored or outgrow this Raptor right away include:

2013 Yamaha Raptor 90 Key Features:

• The Raptor 90 has the features to deliver more fun than ever before, with a 88cc SOHC 2-valve engine tuned to develop excellent low-to-mid rpm range performance. It also has features surprising in this class and price range, like a fully automatic CVT transmission, dual A-arm front suspension, rear disc brake, low-profile tires, and styling unmistakably inspired by the mighty Raptor 700R.
• Dual A-arm front suspension has 4.4-inches of travel for sporty-riding comfort, while adding to the Raptor 90’s big-ATV look. Shocks have 5-way preload adjustment to accommodate a variety of riders and terrain. The rear swingarm, also 5-way preload adjustable, offers 3.3-inches of travel.
• For sporty looks and handling, Raptor 90 uses low-profile Maxxis® tires. For riding comfort, there are aggressive-looking full floorboards.
• For strong, reliable stopping power, there’s a hydraulic disc brake with a drilled rotor in the back, and dual sealed drums in the front.
• Restricting power output for learning riders is exceptionally convenient; there’s a simple plug-in for the CDI unit.
• Available in an exclusive White version with two graphics choices young riders will love.

2013 Yamaha Raptor 90 Features and Benefits:

2013 Yamaha Raptor 90 ATV pictures 5• The go-getter 88cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve engine is tuned to develop excellent low-to-mid-range performance, just where it’s needed. Engine is force-air cooled for performance and long engine life, and it uses simple, reliable wet-sump lubrication.
• Easy-to-operate electric starting comes standard, of course, and an emergency kick starter is also provided in a storage spot under the seat for more peace of mind.
• Constantly variable transmission (CVT) means no shifting. Handy for all riders, it’s a feature entry-level riders particularly appreciate.
• Engine power is transferred to the rear wheels via a tried-and-true chain drive.

Chassis/Suspension:

• Dual A-arm front suspension has 4.4-inches of travel for sporty-riding comfort, while helping to give the front end the look of a big Raptor. Shocks have 5-way preload adjustment to accommodate a variety of riders and terrain. The rear swingarm, also 5-way preload adjustable, offers 3.3-inches of travel to enhance riding comfort and traction.
• Raptor 90 is designed to be comfortable for a wide variety of riders. With its roomy ergonomics, growing riders 12 and older won’t outgrow the machine before they’re ready for more displacement when they’re older.
• Maxxis® low-profile tires, AT18 x 7-8 front and AT18 x 9-8 rear, give Raptor 90 sporty looks and sporty handling. For riding convenience, there are aggressive-looking full floorboards.
• For strong, reliable stopping power, there’s a hydraulic disc brake in the back with a drilled rotor that’s protected against rocks and other obstacles by a beefy guard. Up front, there are dual sealed drums. There’s a handlebar-mounted parking brake, too.

Additional Features:

• The DC-CDI digital ignition timing control system means reliable performance, with a strong, efficient spark.
• Battery and other electrical components are conveniently and centrally located for service. Waterproof connectors add to the overall reliability.

That best-in-class power is controlled by precision-engineered handling and, new on 2013 models, Dynamic Power Steering (DPS). Consider, too, these vehicles include numerous features designed around the driver and passenger, plus that distinct Can-Am look. Ride one and you'll know why the Commander redefined the side-by-side industry.

27-in. Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires
Rotax® V-Twin engine options

2013 Can-Am Commander 1000 DPS Features and Benefits

Rotax® V-Twin engine options - Available with a 71-hp Rotax 800R or 82-hp Rotax 1000 liquid-cooled V-Twin engines with four valves per cylinder and overhead camshafts. With twin fuel injectors that supply efficient fuel delivery into the combustion chamber for powerful, yet precise performance. The Rotax 800R and 1000 engines are the most fuel-efficient in the industry.

Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC)

iTC’s throttle-by-wire set up improves throttle response, smoothes power delivery and ensure precision throttle control even in the roughest of terrain. The Rotax engine uses a throttle-by-wire system for more accurate throttle response and a smooth power delivery. If the driver’s foot bounces on the gas pedal in rough terrain, iTC detects unwanted bounces and filters the input, resulting in more throttle accuracy, especially at low speed. It also reduces the number of moving parts in the vehicle; has no cable to adjust, lubricate, or replace; and the system has an increased life span.

Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension with external sway bar

2013 Can-Am Commander 1000 DPS ATV pictures 3Exclusive to Can-Am, TTI eliminates scrub and camber changes by using proprietary geometry that places the pivot points ahead of the rear wheels. The Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension is the only independent rear suspension that eliminates scrub and camber changes. Because the pivot points are ahead of the wheels, the rear wheels pivot up and down, which ensures that the vehicle only moves in the direction you point it. TTI has fewer parts than competitive designs and significantly decreases tire wear.

Double A-arm front suspension with dive-control geometry

The Can-Am Commander's double A-arm front suspension is designed with dive-control geometry that works to eliminate diving under heavy breaking and rough terrain. The front end features 10 in. of travel (25 cm) and five-way preload-adjustable motion-control shocks.

214-mm ventilated disc brakes with hydraulic twin-piston calipers

Outboard disc brakes with 214-mm discs and twin-piston calipers. Large 214-mm outboard hydraulic disc brakes feature twin-piston callipers to provide superb stopping power.

Motion Control Shocks

This suspension features five-way, pre-load-adjustable motion control shocks with 10 in. (254 mm) of travel and large diameter shock bodies (1.4 in./36 mm) for better durability and better resistance to fading.

Quick-ratio steering system (10.2:1)

A quicker steering ratio means more responsive handling with pinpoint accuracy and control. The steering ratio of the Can-Am Commander is 10.2:1. This translates to more accurate, responsive and precise control.

11-in. of ground clearance

For maximum performance in challenging terrain, the Commander has 11-in. of ground clearance. With 11 total inches of ground clearance the Commander can tackle brutal conditions and challenging terrain. Its suspension also features integrated sag to let it work in its travel “sweet spot.”

Cockpit storage

The Can-Am Commander models feature 1,928 cube inch of convenient and versatile cockpit storage space so you can take your essentials with you.

2-in. diameter ROPS-approved cage

ROPS-approved, 2-in. steel cage that is fully approved using the Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS) industry standard.

2-in. rear hitch receiver

Descrption: Standard 2-in. hitch receiver accommodates a tow vehicle’s towing bar. The Commander has a standard 2-in. rear receiver hitch that can work with a standard vehicle towing bar.

Fits in the bed of most full-size pickup trucks

The Commander family can fit in the bed of most full-size pickup trucks. Many full-size pick-up truck owners will be pleased to know the Commander will fit in the bed of their truck.

Quick-attach side nets

Located on both sides of the vehicle, side nets can be operated by one hand and won’t impair the occupants’ vision. Get in and out quickly with this simple one-hand and one-click system. Designed to maintain a clear field of vision for driver and passenger.

10-gal gas tank

The industry’s largest fuel tank lets you ride longer and work harder. With a capacity that’s 11 % more than its nearest competitor, the industry’s largest gas tank (10 gal) supplies maximum range for work and play.

Easy-to-use maintenance center

Easily accessible and out of the elements under the hood, a centralized maintenance area allows access to the air box, radiator and coolant overflow. Fuses and relays are also easily accessible.

Dual cup holders

Purpose-built for use off-road, twin cup holders feature integrated rubber flaps.

625-W magneto

This package provides a more powerful magneto with 625-W of power output.

Adjustable driver seat and tilt steering

Automotive-type adjustments, that require no tools and offer the driver superb comfort levels.

1,500-lb. towing capacity

Tow heavy loads of up to 1,500 lb with the Commander . Working with a Commander side-by-side vehicle is a snap with its ability to tow up to 1,500 lb.

Driver and passenger advanced ergonomics

The Can-Am Commander was designed with a more ergonomic seating and steering position than competitive side-by-sides. This provides an optimal seating position, automotive-like ergonomics, low hip position (H point), easier ingress / egress, optimal comfort when riding and more legroom.

Removable free-standing seats

The freestanding Commander seats can be removed from the machine without tools. Full bolster seats provide lumbar and shoulder support, and provide comfort in aggressive riding situations. Both seats are easily removable and come with an integrated stand offering a comfortable seating position when used outside of the vehicle.

D.E.S.S.™ (Digitally Encoded Security System)

The industry’s first standard anti-theft device. The Can-Am Commander comes with two different keys. One that limits top speed to 44 mph (70 km/h). The second is the performance key with no limitation on speed or power. An optional third work key is available for purchase and limits top speed to 25 mph (40 km/h) for use on work sites.

Passenger handhold and grab bar

The passenger handhold and grab bar provide a comfortable location for passenger’s to place their hands while riding off-road. Ergonomically designed passenger handholds are located immediately in front of the passenger and to their left-hand side.

240-W lighting

The Can-Am Commander family of side-by-side vehicles features the industry’s best lighting system at 240-W. Automotive-style projectors, on each side, run at 120-W in low beam and 240-W in high-beam mode.

Industry’s exclusive Dual-Level cargo box

2013 Can-Am Commander 1000 DPS ATV pictures 4The industry’s most versatile and usable cargo box design has a 600-lb cargo capacity, dual storage levels, anti-rust box and tilt-assist dumping. Industry's first cargo box with two levels separated by a removable, water-resistant panel. It offers the possibility to have an upper and a lower bed with their independent tailgate. Carrying capacity of the box is 13.1 cu ft /372 l of total volume and 600 lb. The tilt-assist dump-bed can be easily activated from both sides. Its single latch upper and lower gates are easily removable and no tools are required. Made of high-strength, anti-rust, anti-dent composite. Also comes with an optional trunk lock as an accessory to secure lower level.

NEW Dynamic Power Steering (DPS™)

The DPS™ technology includes a Direct Link setup that uses advanced magnetic field sensors for faster response to steering input than competitive technology, which then minimizes steering lag. Less kickback and more trail feedback is supplied to the operator because of the 50:1 final gear ratio, which is the largest in the industry. A high-capacity 50-amp motor means the DPS™ will never fade with heavy use and all DPS™-equipped models also come with the Visco-Lok† QE.

14-in. cast-aluminum wheels with machined finish

Wheels featuring a strong lightweight construction.

Visco-Lok† QE auto-locking front differential

All DPS-equipped models have the Visco-Lok† QE calibration up front, which has all the features and benefits of the standard quick-engagement Visco-Lok† differential, but with an even quicker engagement point. The industry’s only progressive auto-locking front differential that engages all wheels at any speed. It constantly monitors front wheel speed, and if it detects one wheel spinning faster than its mate, it progressively sends more power to the wheel with better traction. All without the driver having to push buttons or pull levers.

27-in. Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires

The lightweight radial tires offer a smoother ride, predictable cornering and optimum climbing confidence.

Large 5.4-gal (20.5 L) fuel tank
25 percent more fuel capacity, which means you can ride longer. Total capacity is 5.4 gallons (20.5 L).

Redesigned air box
The new air box was reconfigured and placed at a higher and more centralized location for filtering and processing air. The no-tools air box features a dual-room design that improves the air filtration process and the quality of air by capturing dirty air in one portion of the box and clean air in another section before it sends the air to the engine. Along with the relocated air box the air intake is also higher in the frame to improve the machine's capabilities in the mud and water.

Large radiator with increased cooling capacity
The larger, more efficient radiator offers almost double the cooling capacity and keeps the engine running cool for optimal Industry-leading performance. The radiator capacity grew by 14 kW with the engineering updates.
Precision-engineered handling

4Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension
The only independent rear suspension that eliminates scrub and camber changes, meaning the wheels pivot up and down rather than in a butterfly motion like competitors' systems. This ensures the vehicle only moves in the direction you point it. With fewer moving parts than competitive systems. The proven Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension has been reconfigured to offer increased rigidity and improved suspension travel. The updates lead to lower pivot points providing geometric squatting for improved traction and the transfer of power to the ground.

Double A-arm with dive-control geometry
Includes dive-control geometry for better cornering and vehicle-braking dynamics and anti-kickback geometry for better steering feel. The 9 inches of suspension travel increase trail comfort and aggressive riding capability.
Surrounding Spar Technology (SST G2) frame with Geometric Contact Control
The next generation and industry-exclusive Surrounding Spar Technology (SST G2) frame. The welded-steel frame incorporates new processes and updated geometry for increased structural integrity, improved durability and precision Precision-engineered handling. The more efficient SST G2 design offers increased strength compared to a traditional tubular steel chassis, a lower center of gravity, better Precision-engineered handling and requires far fewer components, materials and welds.

214-mm ventilated disc brakes with hydraulic twin-piston calipers
The front and rear setup use large 214-mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers for superior stopping power.
Rider-focused design

Multi-function digital gauge
Tells the rider everything in one easy glance. Our easy-to-read multi-function gauge is equipped with a digital information center including a speedometer, tachometer (bar graph RPM, bottom bar numerical), odometer, trip meter, gear position, hour meter, engine hour meter, temperature and engine lights, fuel gauge and a clock function.

Center skid plate
The high-strength skid plate is made from proven materials and is designed for supreme protection and has the ability to slide over certain obstacles. Made of 5-mm thick injection-molded high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Multi-function racks with LinQ quick-attach accessory system
The Outlander ATVs have redesigned cargo racks offering more convenience, greater durability, improved versatility and industry-leading cargo hauling prowess. High-strength, reinforced composite racks replace the tubular steel setup. The innovative racks feature an integrated anti-skid surface and elevated ridges for improved cargo holding. Numerous edges and holes improve use with tie-downs and bungee cords. Additional predetermined "cutouts" were also added for use with Can-Am's exclusive LinQ accessory system, which is adaptable and customizable for various uses and products. LinQ accessories are already available from Can-Am dealers. Combined rack capacity is 300-lb (100-lb front / 200-lb rear).

Easy access for maintenance
Can-Am engineers succeeded at producing a more maintenance-friendly setup. The battery was relocated beneath the seat to offer easier access and improved protection. The rear brake fluid reservoir, solenoid starter and relays were also placed under the seat.

1,300-lb (590 kg) towing capacity
The Outlander offers a sizeable, 1,300-pound towing capacity and a new 2-in. receiver hitch as standard equipment.

5.7-gal (21.4L) water-resistant rear storage box
A huge 5.7-gallon (21.4L) rear storage box offers industry-leading cargo capacity and is located beneath the rear cargo rack. The more convenient location means riders can access the water-resistant, sealed storage box even when the rear cargo rack is loaded.

230-W headlights. The most lightning output of any ATV in the industry
Restyled headlights project Can-Am heritage and also offer enhanced visibility for trail riding. On high beam, the twin 60-W projectors and dual 55-W reflectors give the Outlander 230 -W of visual clarity.

Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.™)
Outlander models feature the exclusive D.E.S.S.™ anti-theft system. The ATV will not start unless a coded microchip in the key matches a code embedded in the engine control module. It means only you can start your vehicle.

Dual taillights
The Outlander taillights offer a stylish design and increased visibility for trail riding.
Specific to Package

3,000-lb WARN? winch with roller fairlead, wired remote control & integrated remote storage
This powerful 3,000-lb (1,361 kg) capacity factory-installed winch is equipped with a wired remote control that neatly stows in the underside of the ATV's front storage compartment cover.

Visco-Lok† QE auto-locking front differential
All DPS-equipped models have the Visco-Lok† QE calibration up front, which has all the features and benefits of the standard quick-engagement Visco-Lok† differential, but with an even quicker engagement point. This differential, unlike some competitors' differentials, does not have a speed limiter.

Handlebar wind deflectors
Premium look and protection from brush and cold.

12-in. cast-aluminum wheels with machined finish
The center-less design reduces unsprung weight and offers improved strength. Durability was increased in strategic areas while excess material was eliminated in other spots to save weight.

Tri-mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS™)
The Tri-Mode DPS™ features three rider-selectable modes (MIN, MED and MAX) of steering depending on rider preference. The system is designed to offer less assist at high speed and more assist at low speed. This technology also includes a Direct Link setup that uses advanced magnetic field sensors for faster response to steering input than competitive technology, which then minimizes steering lag.

625-W magneto
This package provides a more powerful magneto with 625-W of power output.

26-in. Carlisle? ACT tires
These 26-in., 3-ply tires feature a tread pattern that is aggressive enough to tackle the toughest terrain, yet provide a smooth ride in a lightweight package.

Optional Pure Magnesium Metallic painted plastic or indutry-exclusive NEXT G-1 Vista? camouflage

2013 Can-Am Outlander Xmr 1000 Review

Mud-riding enthusiasts demand an ATV that not only dominates in the best mud-riding areas, but looks impressive doing it. Replacing the successful Outlander™ 800R X mr¹, the all-new 2013 Can-Am® OutlanderTM 1000 X mr is purpose-built to conquer every mud hole it encounters. With its menacing façade, innovative mud-specific setup and unequalled power, the 1000 X mr is as refined and it is tough.

The new X mr uses the new Outlander MAX platform and long 59-inch (150 cm) wheelbase for proven performance in the deepest mud. The muscular, 82-HP 976cc Rotax® V-Twin engine supplies ample power for churning through the slop. We also use a new, larger radiator on the front rack, so it's as high on the ATV as possible and out of the mud and water for optimal temperature control. The CVT intake, CVT exhaust and engine air intake are also located as high as possible in the machine to keep mud and water out of important components to keep the X mr going even in the worst conditions. Then BRP added a complete FOX‡ Air Controlled Suspension system so riders can select a preferred ride height: higher for getting to the mud hole and lower for riding to and from the mud. BRP adds premium ITP‡ wheels and 30-inch (76 cm) Gorilla‡ Axle Silverback tyres for a complete mud-riding package.

The new model year also brought other key updates compared to the previous generation X mr model. These changes include the redesigned X-package graphics and sponsor logos, reconfigured foot mounts, ITP SS wheel caps, as well as analogue / digital gauge package.

The Outlander X mr is the machine that set the mud-riding standard in the industry. Now the Outlander X mr features the 82-hp Rotax 1000 V-Twin engine; our exclusive next-generation chassis extended to 59 in. (150 cm) and engineered using Geometric Contact Control principles; front and rear Air Control Suspension (ACS) with FOX8 Air Assist HPG shocks. Our partnership with Gorilla Axle gives this ATV the finest mud-performance tires.

2013 Can-Am Outlander Xmr 1000 Features and Benefits

Industry-leading performance

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with engine braking
For ease of use, you can count on the CVT transmission that features engine braking to help slow you when going downhill.

Rotax® V-Twin engine options
This engine is the most powerful in the industry with 82-hp. The liquid-cooled, single overhead cam power plant has four valves per cylinder, a 46-mm throttle body and two VDO Siemens‡ fuel injectors. The EFI system keeps the 1000 engine's Industry-leading performance at its peak and a progressive throttle ensures power is manageable whether in precise rock crawling or opening it up on the straights.

Large radiator with increased cooling capacity
The larger, more efficient radiator offers almost double the cooling capacity and keeps the engine running cool for optimal Industry-leading performance. The radiator capacity grew by 14 kW with the engineering updates.
Precision-engineered handling

Double A-arm with dive-control geometry
Includes dive-control geometry for better cornering and vehicle-braking dynamics and anti-kickback geometry for better steering feel. The 9 inches of suspension travel increase trail comfort and aggressive riding capability.

3Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension
The only independent rear suspension that eliminates scrub and camber changes, meaning the wheels pivot up and down rather than in a butterfly motion like competitors' systems. This ensures the vehicle only moves in the direction you point it. With fewer moving parts than competitive systems. The proven Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension has been reconfigured to offer increased rigidity and improved suspension travel. The updates lead to lower pivot points providing geometric squatting for improved traction and the transfer of power to the ground.

Surrounding Spar Technology (SST G2) frame with Geometric Contact Control
The next generation and industry-exclusive Surrounding Spar Technology (SST G2) frame. The welded-steel frame incorporates new processes and updated geometry for increased structural integrity, improved durability and precision Precision-engineered handling. The more efficient SST G2 design offers increased strength compared to a traditional tubular steel chassis, a lower center of gravity, better Precision-engineered handling and requires far fewer components, materials and welds.

214-mm ventilated disc brakes with hydraulic twin-piston calipers
The front and rear setup use large 214-mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers for superior stopping power.
Rider-focused design

Easy access for maintenance
Can-Am engineers succeeded at producing a more maintenance-friendly setup. The battery was relocated beneath the seat to offer easier access and improved protection. The rear brake fluid reservoir, solenoid starter and relays were also placed under the seat.

Center skid plate
The high-strength skid plate is made from proven materials and is designed for supreme protection and has the ability to slide over certain obstacles. Made of 5-mm thick injection-molded high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Dual taillights
The Outlander taillights offer a stylish design and increased visibility for trail riding.

1,300-lb (590 kg) towing capacity
The Outlander offers a sizeable, 1,300-pound towing capacity and a new 2-in. receiver hitch as standard equipment.

Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.™)
Outlander models feature the exclusive D.E.S.S.™ anti-theft system. The ATV will not start unless a coded microchip in the key matches a code embedded in the engine control module. It means only you can start your vehicle.
Specific to Package

59-in. Wheelbase
Uses the 59-in. wheelbase of the Outlander MAX platform for improved Industry-leading performance in the deepest mud.

Optional industry-exclusive NEXT G-1 Vista camouflage

Analog/digital gauge
State-of-the-art instrumentation including analog tachometer and speedometer, and a digital information center.

Relocated radiator
The radiator is relocated to the front rack, keeping it high up on the ATV and out of the mud and water.

30-in. (76.2 cm) Gorilla Axle Silverback? tires
Designed by Gorilla Axle for mud riding and racing, these tires were developed to go in the deepest mudholes of east Texas and Louisiana. The tires give mud Industry-leading performance, yet a smooth ride when traveling to the mud hole.

Heavy-duty front and rear bumpers
The front and rear bumpers are factory installed and are covered by a factory warranty. The added protection gives peace of mind in rugged conditions.

Mud riding footrests
For an optimized ergonomic position while riding in the deepest mud.

Aluminum taper-profile handlebar with wind deflectors and square pad
Premium look and protection from brush and cold.

14-in. ITP? SS312 cast-aluminum wheels
Large ITP cast aluminum wheels to give the Outlander X mr an aggressive look. one of the strongest, lightest and best looking one-piece aluminum wheels on the market today. Custom SS wheel cap

Front and rear Air Control Suspension (ACS) with FOX? Air Assist HPG shocks
The industry's first air-controlled suspension. Via an onboard compressor, the system adjusts the front and rear high-pressure gas FOX Air assist shocks to six rider-selectable preload levels. This allows the suspension of the X mr to be adjusted on-the-fly depending on terrain or vehicle load. It also comes with a hose that can be used to fill tires or other accessories while out on the trail.
