2012 Can-Am Outlander Renegade 500 Review

Offering the ultimate in value and trail performance, the 2012 Can-Am Renegade 500 EFI has the crossover sport quad market covered. Outfitted with design influences from the larger-bore Renegade ATVs, the 500-class model has class-leading power, integrated 4x4 versatility and the Can-Am DNA to please any trail rider looking for a stimulating ride. Its V-Twin Rotax® engine, race-tested suspension package and Visco-Lok front differential makes mud and rocks a blast, not a chore.

The Renegade still leads the way in sport performance and 4x4 terrain ability. From the 82-hp 1000 model through to the 40.4-hp 500 model. And now we’ve given the 1000 and 800R models our innovative new chassis that will change the way you experience ATV handling. With more control and more natural handling that performs better on the trail and on changing terrain.

2012 Can-Am Outlander Renegade 500 Features and Benefits

40.4-hp Rotax 500 V-Twin, liquid-cooled EFI engine

This powerful 40.4-hp engine is liquid cooled with SOHC with 4 valves per cylinder and features 2 injectors for a precise fuel delivery and throttle response. The only V-Twin in its class.
Torsional Trailing arm Independent rear suspension (TTI)

The only independent rear suspension that eliminates scrub and camber changes, meaning the wheels pivot up and down rather than in a butterfly motion like competitors' systems. This ensures the vehicle only moves in the direction you point it. With fewer moving parts than competitive systems.

Visco-Lok† auto-locking 4x4 front differential

The Visco-Lok† 4 x 4 system constantly monitors front wheel speed and, if it detects one wheel spinning faster than the other, it progressively sends more power to the wheel with the better traction. And it does it all without the rider having to lift a finger.

Double A-arm front suspension

The front suspension geometry provides light steering on the trail meaning less rider fatigue. The Renegade 500 offers 8.5-in. (216 mm) of front suspension travel.

Multi-function digital gauge

Tells the rider everything in one easy glance. Our easy-to-read multi-function gauge is equipped with a digital information center including a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter, hour meter, gear function, fuel gauge and a clock function.

Independent front and rear brake controls

Independent front and rear brake controls for a sportier ride.

Motion Control front and rear shocks

Provides a smooth ride with machine-specific calibration to soak up both high and low speed bumps.

Lightweight, center cast-aluminum wheels with ITP Holeshot ATR Sport radial tires

Four 60-W projector beam lights

Full floorboards with kick-up pegs

D.E.S.S.™ (Digitally Encoded Security System) (ATV) (Renegade)

Renegade models feature the exclusive D.E.S.S.™ anti-theft system. The ATV will not start unless a coded microchip in the key matches a code embedded in the engine control module. It means only you can start your vehicle.
